  • Bliss Irises, Family and Flowers

    $35.00

Anne Milner presents her family history and gardening in a unique and very personal journey.   Anne, with her love of plants, was exploring her great, great grandfather’s legacy.  She learned that he built the Bliss Tweed Mill when she also discovered  an uncle Arthur who worked with early 20th century irises.  Arthur J. Bliss was well traveled and became famous in the horticultural world for breeding and introducing the iris “Dominion”.  It took the world by storm when it was introduced in 1917 and is found in the pedigree of hundreds of modern irises.

The book is filled with stunning photographs, watercolors by Fern Harden and line drawings.   These HIPS copies are signed by Anne.

  • Dream Gardener by George H. Edmonds

    $20.00

This book, Dream Gardener, explains Farr’s early life in Iowa and Boston and then, in midlife, how his extraordinary meteoric rise to fame in Wyomissing, PA, culminated in his pioneering not only irises, but also peonies and daylilies.  This 158-page book generously features period photographs, including those from colored glass slides, as well as plant lists, lyrical essays and poems Farr composed for his popular catalogs. If you are a historic iris fan, you’ll want to add this book to your library!   ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF COPIES ARE AVAILABLE.   (HIPS received these copies as a gift from the author.)
